(ISN) – TEMPE, Ariz. – The Indiana women’s water polo team won their final game of the ASU Invite against the University of Redlands, 20-4. Kelly Matthews led ten Hoosiers in scoring with four goals.
Seven Hoosiers scored multiple goals in Sunday’s game.Candyce Schroeder and Rebecca Gerrity each netted hat tricks for the Hoosiers. Sarah Young, Sarah Myers, andJennifer Beadle netted two goals each. Bronwyn Smith,Summer Creighton, Shelby Taylor, and Colleen McNaughtcontributed with one goal apiece.
McNaught served four assists in the game, bringing her total to ten assists on the weekend. Beadle followed with three assists to her name. Eight Hoosiers were credited with at least one assist, and an assist preceded 15 of the Hoosiers’ 20 goals.
Indiana opened the contest with three unanswered goals by Schroeder, Taylor, and Matthews. McNaught assisted on two of Indiana’s first three goals. Redlands responded with a goal near the end of the first, but Indiana led at the end of the quarter, 3-1.
The Hoosiers fired three unanswered goals to start the second quarter as well, two more from Schroeder and one from Gerrity. Redlands cut Indiana’s lead to four with their second goal of the game, but the Hoosiers closed the half with four more goals to make it 10-2 at half time.
The Hoosiers were on all-out attack after the break, and started the second half with four consecutive goals from Myers, Matthews, and Gerrity. Redlands and Indiana traded goals near the middle of the third quarter, but the Hoosiers closed the quarter with three unanswered goals to make it 18-4 with one quarter remaining.
The Indiana defense shut out the Bulldogs in the fourth quarter, and the Hoosiers tacked on two more goals from Creighton and Smith for a 20-4 Indiana win at the final whistle.
The Hoosiers move into the final stretch of their CWPA conference schedule on the road against Notre Dame College on Saturday, March 28 at 12:00 pm.
