Abey third in round 1 in Battle at Primm to rank Vikes fourth

(ISN) – VICTORIA – The University of Victoria Vikes women’s golf team completed their first round at the Battle at Primm hosted at Primm Valley Golf Club in Nevada on Mar. 23-24. Currently, the Vikes are fourth out of 12 schools in team standings with a score of 309.


Fourth year Michaela Abey is third in individual standings after shooting 35 in the front nine and 37 in her back nine in the opening round for a score of 72. She is tied with UBC’s Stephanie Wong, currently second individually, who finished the day with a 72 score.

First year Vike Brianna Carrels was the second highest Vike, individually shooting 76 to rank 14th, while Laura Ferreira carded 79, 7 over par. Third year Shannon Raina finished the first round with a 10 over par score of 82 and fourth year Cari Chow shot 89 on Day 1.

In team standings, the Vikes sit behind scoring leaders Northwood, who completed their opening day with a 6 over par score of 294. UBC is currently second with a total of 298, 10 over par, followed by Wayland Baptist in third place with 300, 12 over par. Northwood’s Elsa Westin is the top individual scorer, shooting 36-30 to record a 6 under par score of 66.

The Vikes will complete their second and final round today, Mar. 24, at the Primm Valley Golf Club.
