Curling | Day 1 Recap

Women’s Draw

A thrilling Wednesday morning draw saw multiple games decided in extra ends, setting the tone for competitive opening draws to the women’s side of the championships. The University of Alberta-Augustana Vikings and Fanshae College Falcons are tied heading into the second day of round robin play, emerging a flawless 2-0. NAIT Ooks, Holland College Hurricanes, Humber College Hawks and Olds College Broncos all split their opening two games and sit at 1-1.

The Mohawk College Mountaineers and MacEwan Unversity Griffins dropped their opening games and look to bounce back on day two. Thursday starts with four teams in action to open draw #4 at 8:30 a.m. The other half of teams square off in 12:30 p.m. draw #5 before all teams compete in both evening draws at 4:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.

Men’s Draw

The Fleming College Knights are 2-0, scoring wins over the Sault College Cougars and NAIT Ooks. The U of A – Augustana Vikings men’s squad defeated the Red Deer College Kings in extra ends and the Fanshawe College Falcons, also remaining unbeaten. MacEwan Griffins, Olds College Broncos, Sault College Cougars and Fanshawe College Falcons split their opening games and are 1-1. NAIT Ooks and Red Deer College Kings men dropped both opening day games and will look for redemption tomorrow. 8:30 a.m. draw #4 will start with a bang – the top two Vikings and Knights squaring off. All eight men’s teams are in action during draws #4 and #5.
