After a stellar year, which included being named FIVB Rookie of the Year, beach volleyball athlete Melissa Humana-Paredes is the latest recipient of the Tom Ng Award.

“Tom Ng’s generosity and continual support in the beach community has always been greatly appreciated,” said Humana-Paredes, who receives $1000 for her training expenses. “I want to thank him again for creating this award to help fund beach athletes as it helps us focus on competing and training.

Humana-Paredes, who is from Toronto, and her partner Taylor Pischke of Winnipeg, had a break-out year, which included rising in the FIVB world rankings, winning the NORCECA (The North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation) Championship and a World Under 23 medal.

The annual award was created by Tom Ng of London, Ont., in partnership with Volleyball Canada and the Canadian Olympic Foundation.

“This is a great recognition for me and Taylor, and a reflection of our awesome season last year. We are looking forward to more successes this upcoming summer.”
