Wolfpack Opens 3-1

The second day of Canadian College Baseball Conference league play resulted in a split for Thompson Rivers University WolfPack. Tfrank fisicoheir final record of the weekend was 3-1 over Vancouver Island Baseball Institute.

The first game of the day was a 12-2 win over VIBI.

Frank Fisico (Toronto, Ont.) gave up four hits and two runs over five innings. He walked one and struck out three.

Offensively, Will Miller (Nelson, BC) went 3-for-4, scoring three runs and driving one in.

Jay Huggins (Nanaimo, BC) went 1-for-3 with a double. Erik Herbranson (Maple Ridge, BC) added two RBIs.

In the second game of the day TRU fell to the Mariners 3-2 as Herbranson moved to the mound and over seven innings he gave up four hits, three runs and walked two. He also struck out seven.

From the plate, Brendan Reid (Calgary, BC) went 1-for-3 and stole a base. Reid also scored a run.

Tony Tabor (White Rock, BC) went 1-for-4 stealing a pair of bases and scored a run.

johnyoungJohn Young (Fort McMurray, Alta.) doubled for the ‘Pack and Ethan Mohan (Calgary, Alta.) went 1-for-4 with a RBI triple.

After much uncertainty about whether the games would take place due to weather, the show did go on. The WolfPack swept the VIBI Mariners in their first day of Canadian College Baseball Conference 2015 games.

The WolfPack started off their season with a 7-4 win over VIBI.

Alex Reid (Kamloops, BC) was the opening day starter for the ‘Pack. Over 6 innings he gave up 4 runs (3 earned) and struck out 3.

Jason Tripp (Sherwood Park, Alta.) registered his first save of the season striking out a batter over 1 inning.

Offensively, three of TRU’s veterans got the job done.

Brendan Reid went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and drove two runners home, while Sean Ash (Sherwood Park, AB) went 1-for-3 and added two RBIs. Luc Simpson (Aldergrove, BC) and Herbranson rounded out the offensive with a double each.

The opening day nightcap resulted in a 4-3 win for the ‘Pack. The WolfPack pitching staff continued their strong start to the season.

Mike Riddle (Surrey, BC) started the game throwing a scoreless 6 innings. He walked 3 and struck out 3.

Jason Tripp, TRU’s reliable closer, picked up a consecutive save.

Offensively, Connor Rogers (Delta, BC) got his season off to a great start with an impressive 3-for-5 with two doubles and a triple.

Ethan Mohan (Calgary, BC) went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a stolen base and a RBI, while Morgan Varley (Victoria, BC) had a clutch hit in the 10th to put TRU in the lead.

The ‘Pack will host the Okanagan College Coyotes and University of Calgary Dinos next weekend for another pair of double headers.
