Toronto, ON – 22 current UBC Thunderbirds swimmers are in Toronto for the next three days competing at the Team Canada trials at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre. The competition will serve as the selection trials for the 2015 Pan American Games, 2015 FINA World Aquatic Championships, 2015 FINA World Junior Championships and the 2015 FISU Games. The event runs Wednesday, April 1 through Saturday, April 4.

Representing the Thunderbirds, but swimming for their respective club teams, are eight women (Rebecca Terejko, Jacomie Strydom, Savannah King, Erika Seltenreich-Hodgson, Mckenzie Summers, Tera Van Beilen, Erin Stamp, and Erin Assman) and 14 men (Luke Peddie, Coleman Allen, Stefan Milosevic, Keegan Zanatta, Yuri Kisil, Kevin Nelson, Jonathan Brown, Will Brothers, Marshal Parker, Justin Chan, Alex Loginov, Sergey Holson, Luke Reilly, and Colin Eriks).

The World University Games will be held July 3-14 in South Korea and the team will feature eight men and eight women plus four open water swimmers.

The Pan Am Games in Toronto start just a week later and will run July 10-26. A full squad of 36 swimmers and four open water swimmers will compete.

As for the World Championships, Swim Canada has set the standards extremely high to make the team and therefore the team could be relatively small. At minimum swimmers must have achieved at least a top 16 time in the world in their respective event in order to qualify. This year’s World Championships will be held in Kazan, Russia, August 2-9.
