NC State belts four homers to knock off No. 8 Florida State in series finale


RALEIGH, N.C. — Jake Fincher and Andrew Knizner accounted for eight of the Wolfpack’s season-high 19 hits, as NC State captured the series finale with No. 8 Florida State with an 11-7 win on Saturday at Doak Field at Dail Park.

Fincher and Knizner also provided two of the four home runs on the afternoon for N.C. State (19-11, 7-7 ACC).

Knizner finished the game 4-for-5 with two runs, an RBI, and his third bomb of the year. Fincher went 4-for-5 to equal his career high set March 10, 2013 against Clemson, while chipping in three runs, two RBI, and his second homer of the season.

Logan Ratledge and Ryne Willard contributed the other two homers. Willard’s part of a 2-for-3 outing with two runs, two RBI, a double, and his second home run. Ratledge extended his team-leading hitting streak to 13 games on a 2-for-5 performance with two runs, two RBI, and his fifth homer of the year.

Joe O’Donnell (4-1) scored the win in 2.2 of relief work, holding the Seminoles (25-8, 11-4) to two runs, one earned, on four hits and no walks with four strikeouts. Wolfpack starter Johnny Piedmonte left after allowing two earned runs in 3.2 innings with three punchouts.

Joe Dunand went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Joel McKeithan drove in one during a 1-for-3 effort with a walk, and turned a critical 6-3 double play with the bases loaded and one out in the Seminole seventh. Jake Armstrong scored once. Preston Palmeiro supplied a 2-for-5 outing. Josh McLain pinch hit in the sixth and went 1-for-2 with a run.
