Kozak 11th; T-Birds 13th at Chambers Bay


VANCOUVER – Conner Kozak (Vernon, B.C.) paced the UBC Thunderbirds men’s golf team to a 13th-place finish at the 2015 Seattle University Redhawk Invitational at the Chambers Golf Course in University Place, Wash.
The first two rounds were played on Monday at the course that will host the U.S. Open later this summer.  All three rounds were par-70.
UBC, the only non-NCAA Div. I team in the field, finished the event at 80-over par 920 (306-309-305), 66 behind the winning school, Washington.
Kozak, a senior, finished alone in 11th place in the individual competition at 11-over 221 (72-76-73). Jack Wood (Banff, Alta.) moved up into a tie for 36th at 19-over 229 (76-75-78).
Scott Secord (Calgary) tied for 47th with a three-round score of 23-over 223 (79-78-76), while rookie Brett Pasula (Red Deer, Alta.) finished with two other golfers in 67th at 27-over 237 (79-80-78).
Evan Holmes (Calgary) rounded out the UBC contingent in a tie for 80th. He carded a round of 80 before shooting 81 in rounds 2 and 3 to conclude the tournament at 32-over 242.
The Redhawk Invitational is the last event for the Thunderbirds before the Association of Independent Institutions conference championship, which will take place April 27-28 in Victoria, Texas.
