Langford, BC (ISN) – The occassonial torrential downpour couldn’t stop the Langford Lightning U12 fastpitch season kick off Saturday as their annual icebreaker tournament at Centennial Park in the Westshore went ahead rain and shine.

The fun tournament, attracting Division B and C teams from the Greater Victoria, Sannich, and even as far away as Duncan, is being held this weekend to start a busy season of girls fastpitch baseball in the South Vancouver Island League. Eighteen games are scheduled over the two day tournament giving fastball fans something to cheer for as the young talent look to knock the ball out of the park for the spectating crowd.

Icebreaker tournaments fill the beginning of every season as means by which to allow coaches to asses their own team as well other team’s talent in the league. With every team being guaranteed four games, the weekend is sure to be a great starting point for all teams involved. Langford is fielding four teams this weekend, placing two teams in each division with hopes of coming out on top.

Lightning Openining Ceremonies will take place April 18th 10- 3pm as all Langford Lightning teams will celebrate Opening Day.
The Langford Lightning are South Vancouver Island’s largest Minor Fastball club providing youth atheletes a positive and rewarding environment for Fastpitch competition, development and fun. Divisions ranging from Learn to Play (U6-U8) to U19 in levels from beginners to competitive B are offered for all those interested.
