Blue Jays From Away

While Buffalo was behind at the time the game was suspended, New Hampshire, Dunedin and Lansing all came up with wins as Monday night featured a clean sweep of completed games by Blue Jays affiliates.

Buffalo Bisons 3, Rochester Red Wings 8
Game suspended due to rain. To be completed on April 14.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 4, New Britain Rock Cats 3
The Fisher Cats called on DH Jake Fox and he came through twice, hitting a pair of home runs, including a three-run blast in the bottom of the eight inning to put the home team on top for good. His night of nights including three hits and four RBI. Dwight Smith, Jr. (3/4, 2B) and Jorge Flores (3/3, 2B) also had three-hit nights.

Starter Mike Lee went seven and allowed three runs on nine hits and two walks while Luis Perez threw 1 1/3 innings without allowing a run for the win and Blake McFarland picked up his first save of the season by getting two outs in the ninth.

Player of the Game: Fox.

Dunedin Blue Jays 6, Clearwater Threshers 5
In a “bullpen game,” the Dunedin Blue Jays sent Scott Silverstein to the mound to start the game. he threw two innings, allowing just a hit and a walk while striking out two before making way for Dusty Isaacs who allowed two unearned runs on two hits and two walks. Alberto Tirado allowed a run on four hits in 2 2/3 innings but struck out three while Brady Dragmire picked up the save with two innings but he allowed three runs to score on a three-run home run.

Fortunately, the offense was there to bail out the pitching, getting two-hit games from Andy Fermin (2/5, 2B, RBI), Jorge Saez (2/4, 2B), Derrick Loveless (2/3, 2 R, 2 RBI, BB) and Christian Lopes (2/4, 2B, 2 R, 2 RBI). David Harris went deep for the Dunedin club, driving in a pair of runs.

Roster Moves:L.B. Dantzler was placed on the DL and Dusty Isaacs was assigned to the Dunedin Blue Jays.

Player of the Game: Loveless and Lopes.

Lansing Lugnuts 9, Fort Wayne TinCaps 1
The Blue Jays have been moving towards a youth movement with the Lansing Lugnuts, sending the barely 20-year-old righty Conner Greene to the Lansing Lugnuts. While he struggled to locate in the strike zone and was hit fairly hard when he left the ball up, Greene was able to get the outs when he needed them, giving up just one run over five innings on five hits and one walk while striking out five. Alonzo Gonzalez came in and absolutely dominated the TinCaps, striking out seven batters in just three innings, mixing his fastball with a changeup and slider, fanning the side twice. Staked to a big lead, Francisco Gracesqui walked the first two batters he faced before manager Ken Huckaby came out to the mound to settle him down. The next batter almost hit into a game-ending triple play when he lined a ball back to first baseman Rowdy Tellez. Tellez stepped on first to get the second out but his throw to second base was just late. The next batter bounced out to end the game.

The Lugnuts hitters seemed to be stalled until the seventh inning with only a solo home run (hit from the left side) by shortstop Richard Urena to put up on the board. In the seventh, the Lugnuts scored three and added another five in the ninth inning thanks to a bases clearing, three-RBI double hit to the right-center field wall by Ryan McBroom. Justin Atkinson had hit a two-run double earlier in the inning, squeaking it just inside the right field line. Rowdy Tellez added two singles, both hard line drives up the middle.

Roster Moves:Tim Mayza was assigned to extended spring training and Greene was assigned to Lansing. Boomer Collins and Chase Wellbrock were put on the DL.

Player of the Game: McBroom and Gonzalez.
