(ISN) – The Portland Winterhawks earned a 5-3 win over the Everett Silvertips Thursday in Game 3 of their second round series at Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
Portland now leads the series 2-1, with a quick turnaround for Game 4 which is set for tomorrow at 7 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
After a scoreless first period, the Hawks dominated most of the second and finally broke through at 17:52 when Anton Cederholm took a feed from Miles Koules and slapped a one-timer past Everett netminder Carter Hart for a 1-0 lead and his first goal of the postseason.
After taking nearly 38 minutes to open the scoring, it then took just 21 seconds for the Hawks to strike again as an Everett penalty on the ensuing play led to a Nic Petan power play goal for a 2-0 lead Portland took into the third.
Early in the third they extended the advantage when Oliver Bjorkstrand knocked a puck past Hart at 3:22 for a 3-0 advantage. Less than two minutes later with the Hawks on a power play, Bjorkstrand struck again as his second of the period gave the Hawks a 4-0 lead. Dominic Turgeon added one at 14:27 to give Portland a 5-0 lead, with Everett adding late goals from Kevin Davis, Ivan Nikolishin and Graham Millar to round out the scoring in a 5-3 win.
Petan finished with a goal and two assists in the win, while Bjorkstrand, Chase De Leo and Miles Koules each had two points.
Adin Hill stopped 16 of the 19 shots he faced in goal for the Hawks. Hart allowed four goals on 34 Portland shots, while backup Austin Lotz came into the game in the third in relief and allowed one goal on two shots.
Portland’s power play was 2-5, and the penalty kill a perfect 2-2.
