(ISN) – WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — A week after posting their best team finish of the season at the NYX Hoosier Invitational, the Indiana men’s golf team is in seventh place out of 15 teams after the first two rounds of the Boilermaker Intercollegiate.
The Hoosiers opened the tournament with a team score of 288 in round one, which ties for the second-best single round score of the year for Indiana. In round two, IU finished with a score of 293 for a total score of 581 (+5).
Senior Nicholas Grubnich logged rounds of 72 and 73, which leaves him at 1-over par and in 21st place individually. After starting on the seventh hole, Grubnich entered the final five holes of his second round at 5-over par for the round. But he rallied quickly to card four birdies in those closing holes and get back to 1-over par.
The other upperclassmen in the lineup this weekend – Max Kollin – also carded a two round total score of 145. He opened with a 2-over par 74 in round one before coming back to register a 1-under par 71 in round two. His second round featured three birdies in is first seven holes and he played his final seven holes in 1-under par.
Brendon Doyle and Keegan Vea carded matching two round scores of 146 and are tied for 28th on the individual leaderboard. Doyle was even par after his first round before closing with a round of 2-over par 74 in round two. Vea opened with 71 in his first round, matching Kollin for best IU round of the day.
Matthew Weber played his first 11 holes in 2-over par, but closed strong by playing his final seven holes in 1-under par to post a score of 73. His second round score of 76 left him with a total score of 149 and a tie for 43rd place.
The final round of the Boilermaker Intercollegiate will get underway at 8:45 a.m. on Sunday by way of a shotgun start.
