(ISN) – PENTICTON, BC –Penticton Vees forward Dakota Conroy has been named the BCHL “Player of the Week” for the week ending April 19th, the league office announced Monday.
Conroy led all scorers last week in the Fred Page Cup Final and ended the BCHL season by scoring the Fred Page Cup-winning goal in overtime in game six in Nanaimo.
The 20-year-old forward tallied six points in four games last week, all Vees wins, including scoring the overtime winner against the Clippers last Friday night as the Vees captured their second league championship in four years. Conroy had a goal and an assist in game six and had three assists in a pivotal game four win in Nanaimo to even the series at 2-2.
The Edmonton, Alberta, native finished third in the BCHL playoff scoring race, tallying six goals and 19 points in 22 games. Two points back of teammate Demico Hannoun who finished second.
Two of Conroy’s teammates received some recognition for the BCHL as well. Steen Cooper was given an honourable mention after scoring three goals and four points. Tyson Jost was also an honourable mention, with three goals in four games; also named a first star in game four.
The Vees are now off to the Crescent Point Energy Western Canada Cup in Fort McMurray, Alberta, which starts Saturday, April 25th. The Vees will be facing the four other western Canadian league champions, in the Spruce Grove Saints, Melfort Mustangs and Portage Terriers, along with hosts Fort McMurray Oil Barons.
