BUFFALO, N.Y. – Canada’s National Sledge Team is in Buffalo for the 2015 IPC Sledge Hockey World Championship, taking place at HarborCenter from April 26 to May 3.
Canada is the defending world champion, having won gold at the 2013 IPC Sledge Hockey World Championship in Goyang, South Korea. It will be joined by Group A by the Czech Republic, Japan and Norway, while Germany, Italy, Russia and the United States will comprise Group B.
Canada opens the world championship on Sunday against Japan, and will also face Norway on April 27 and the Czech Republic on April 29 in preliminary round play. The semifinals are set for May 1, and the bronze medal game and gold medal game will be played May 3.
Canada’s 17-player roster for the world championship was announced on Wednesday, and includes 12 players who helped win gold at the world championship in Goyang two years ago.
In seven appearances at the IPC Sledge Hockey World Championship, Canada has won three gold medals (2000, 2008, 2013) and three bronze medals (1996, 2009, 2012), finishing fourth in 2004.
