The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Portland Winterhawks 3-2 on Friday night in game one of the WHL Western Conference final at Prospera Place in Kelowna.
The Rockets scored three times in the second period to erase an early deficit and shut down the Hawks in the win.
Rourke Chartier scored the game-winning goal, the third straight goal Kelowna scored in an exciting second period. Madison Bowey had opened the scoring and Justin Kirkland also scored for the Rockets.
Portland had jumped out to an early lead on two goals in the first period, including one by Oliver Bjorkstrand, who opened the scoring just 35 seconds into the game.
Down 2-0 to start the second, Bowey and Kirkland scored twice in 46 seconds to even the game, before Chartier scored the winner.
The Rockets outshot the Winterhawks 46-32 in the game as Jackson Whistle earned the win, shutting the door after the first two goals.
Both teams were 0-for-2 on the power play in front of 5,,871 fans in Kelowna.
