Weekend Results

The club took home an Island championship Saturday in 3rd division, and
had to settle for runner-up in 1sts. The top squad battled Port Alberni
throughout their match, and managed to tie up the game 30-30 at the final
whistle. That took us into 20 minutes of overtime play, where the wheels
fell off for Velox. The Black Sheep put three converted tries on the board
in overtime to win the match 51-30. Port carries on to host powerhouse
Seattle next week, while the Valhallians are now done for the summer.

It was a far different result in the curtain raiser, with our
veteran-stacked 3rds having a much easier day against Comox. The final was
65-0, but certainly didn’t reflect the effort put in by the opposition,
who ran hard at us all day. The 3rds proceed now to BC wide playoffs.

The other match for the club saw our 2nd div women head up to Nanaimo,
where they dispatched the Lomas by a score of 72-17. That’s a strong way
to finish the regular season, but they are out of playoff contention.

Coming Up

The stage is set for the last games for the club at 3957 Gordon Head Road.
This coming Saturday we will host a pair of BC semi-final matches for the
3rds and the premier women – both against Capilano. I don’t have kickoff
times yet, but book the day off!

VV All-Time All-Stars

Another reason to come by the club will be to vote on the top Velox squad
of all time! We have compiled a list of 60 players (4 per position) and 4
coaches from throughout our five decades that represent the best in
playing ability and club spirit. All must have played for a minimum of
seasons to be eligible.

For a $20 donation to the club, you will receive a rough draft document
containing player profiles for all 60 players and 4 coaches and a ballot.
It will make for entertaining reading, after which you can cast your votes
for your Velox dream team. Results will be revealed in the fall at our new
home in Colwood, and at that time those that have paid to vote will
receive a copy of the official glossy booklet detailing all of the
profiles and results.

For those of you who are out of town or out of the country, we will soon
have an online system set up through our website so that you can
