Playmaker Nathan Hirayama returns from injury to make season debut for Canada following exciting fourth-place finish in Tokyo
LANGFORD, BC – Canada’s Men’s Sevens Team will be buoyed by the return from injury of experienced playmaker Nathan Hirayama for the upcoming Glasgow Sevens event. Hirayama, who hasn’t played this season due to a long-term shoulder issue, makes his bow in the penultimate stop of the 2014/15 World Sevens Series.

The 27-year-old UVIC Vikes scrum-half is one of two new additions to Liam Middleton’s 13-man squad with Lucas Hammond and Justin Douglas the players missing out, as Canada look to build on the foundations laid from their impressive fourth-place finish in Tokyo.
Elsewhere, one of the stars of that recent event in Japan, Ciaran Hearn, is again included alongside stalwarts Harry Jones, Sean Duke, Conor Trainor, Mike Fuailefau, Sean White and captain John Moonlight. Young quintet Admir Cejvanovic, Pat Kay, Liam Underwood, Adam Zaruba and Pat Parfrey complete the group.
Those experienced heads being bolstered by the returning Hirayama is a sizeable boost to the Canadian squad, as the elusive runner and goal-kicker looks to recapture his fine form of 2012/13 when he ended that season as the Series’ third highest points scorer.
Canada will kick-off Day One at Scotstoun Stadium in Glasgow next Saturday with a match against local rivals USA before they face Argentina and Japan, with the prospect of back-to-back Cup appearances a driving force before the Series ends in London on May 17.
The recent effort in Tokyo saw the team pick up 15 World Series points, which has moved them above Wales into 11th position with two rounds to play.
