The 2015 Canadian 10,000m Championships take place this Sunday, May 10th in London, Ontario. A field of forty athletes will take part in this twenty-five lap championship event at TD Stadium on the campus of Western University. A 3k Community Fun Run is scheduled for 6:15pm and the first heat of the 10,000m Championship is scheduled to start at 7:00pm.

Both races will feature deep and talented fields of Canadian distance athletes. 2014 Canadian 10,000m champions Leslie Sexton of London, Ont., and Barry Britt of Hampton, N.B., are both in the fields on Sunday as they look to defend their national titles.

In the men’s race, Kelly Wiebe of Swift Current, Sask., who was third at the 2013 10,000m championship, headlines the field of challengers. Earlier this year, Wiebe was Canada’s top placer at both the IAAF World and NACAC cross country championships. Wiebe’s 2014 Ekiden Relay teammate Sami Jaibril of Toronto, Ont., has raced well this spring and could prove to be worthy competition. Jibril’s club teammate, Matt Loiselle of Toronto, Ont., had a solid showing on the roads earlier this spring at the Toronto Yonge Street 10k, beating JIbril and placing second. Other contenders for a podium spot include Alexis Lavoie-Gilbert, Blair Morgan and Anthony Larouche.

In the women’s race, Laura Batterink of Port Perry, Ont., could pose a challenge to defending champion Sexton. A large contingent of athletes from Quebec provincial clubs will also provide some depth to the women’s field.
