The Jr. Shamrocks split a pair of games on the weekend. After coming out on the winning end of a 15-7 score against the visiting Langley Thunder Saturday, they dropped an overtime heartbreaker Sunday, losing 13-12 to the Delta Islanders.
The Rocks jumped out to an early 3-0 lead but at the end of the first period held only a 4-3 lead. They scored 4 of 5 second period markers to take an 8-4 lead into the final 20 minutes and the Islanders dominated, with the result after 60 minutes an 11-11 tie. Leading the way for the Shamrocks was Matt Hamilton in his first game back from school with a pair of goals and 3 helpers. Ryan Lewis added a pair of goals and 2 assists with singles coming from Rees Cullen, Tyson Fair, Max Fredrickson, Nate Wade, David Byrne, Adam Jay, Brock Thompson-Marshall and Nick Preston, also in his first game back and who chipped in 3 assists. Charles Claxton was outstanding in goal, making 62 saves as the Shamrocks were outshot by a wide margin. The loss keeps the Shamrocks in 2nd place, 4 points behind the Islanders. Next up for the Jr. Rocks is a pair of road games as they travel to Langley next Sunday and to Nanaimo on Tuesday, May 19 before returning to the Q Centre for a home date on Saturday, May 23 against the Burnaby Lakers. Game time is 5:00 pm.
