The women capped an undefeated season with one last victory, posting a 36-12 result over Burnaby Lake to take the top women’s title in BC, the Gordon Harris Memorial Cup. The Valkyries took the lead early and had a 29-5 advantage at the half. Congratulations to all the ladies that worked so hard over the last year!
It was a different story for the 3rds, who struggled to control the flow of the game against a Kelowna squad that was young, fit, and well drilled. It was almost enough to convince our aging veterans that there might be some merit to this new fad of practicing in 3rd division. Almost…. The difference in fitness showed in the last quarter, when the score opened up a bit. The final was 65-17 for Kelowna, who are certainly worthy of the 3rd div championship this season.
The bar will be open this Thursday evening for the usual club night, and I am assuming that there will be touch for anyone that wants to come out for a run. There will be an 80’s theme for club night: tunes from the 80’s and drink prices to match. There will be a raffle as well for a team Canada autographed jersey. Tickets $1!! George Jones will be there, looking to enjoy one of our last opportunities to reminisce before our move to the Westshore.
Draft Beer $3
Apple Cider $3
Hot Dogs 2 For $3
Goodbye to Gordon Head
With our lease expiring on June 1st, your last opportunity to enjoy the clubhouse will be on Saturday, May 30th. I’ll have more details and a schedule later, but you can look forward to a day of touch rugby and other games (perhaps one last Old Boys match), before we move the party inside in the evening to enjoy a live band. Stay tuned, and set aside the whole day!
With the move to the Westshore we are moving to a different era where we will no longer have significant bar revenue. Please help us build an endowment fund that will support the growth of the club for generations to come. All donations are tax deductible and can be made simply by providing your credit card information through the Canadian Rugby Foundation website and direct donations to the “Westshore VV” fund through the “donate now” button on the main page.
We have a goal of 50 donors donating 20 a month or 240 a year tax deductible. Whether retired, a student or working we believe this is an affordable amount. Please join the Legacy club.
