The Intermediate ‘A’ and Jr. ‘A’ Shamrocks both came up with wins Saturday at the Q Centre.
The matinee game was a nail-biter as the Intermediate Shamrocks scored twice in the final minute of the game to pull out a 10-9 win over the visiting Port Coquitlam Saints.
The game was close throughout, neither team getting more than a 2-goal lead. The win keeps the Shamrocks unbeaten. Leading the way was David Byrne with 4 goals and 1 assist. Marshal King had a pair of goals with singles coming from Brad McCulley, Taylor Martin, Braylon Lumb and Ben Preston. Apollo Claxton picked up the win in goal with 27 saves. The Intermediate Shamrocks are on the road Thursday as they travel to the Nanaimo Ice Centre to face the Nanaimo Timbermen. Game time is 8:00 pm. Their next home game is in two weeks, Saturday, June 6 when they face the Langley Thunder at 1:30 at the Q Centre.
In the evening contest, the Jr. Rocks ran away with a 14-8 victory over the visiting Burnaby Lakers. The visitors made it interesting in the final period but the game wasn’t really close as the Shamrocks had period leads of 6-1 and 9-3. Cole Pickup had the hot hand with 3 goals and 6 assists. Ryan Lewis, Max Fredrickson and Jake Cullen also had hat tricks with Fredrickson and Cullen adding 4 helpers each. Jamie Jensen and McLean Chicquen had the other Victoria goals. The Shamrocks travel to Coquitlam Sunday and return to the Q Centre next Saturday, May 30 to host the New Westminster Salmonbellies in a 5:00 pm start.
