May 28, 2015, Victoria, BC (ISN) – The Victoria Grizzlies announced today five British Columbia based players and eight out of Province recruits that are committed to the BC Hockey League team for the 2015-2016 season.

The British Columbia recruits are led by Tyler Welsh, who suited up as an AP for the Grizzlies for two games in the 2014-2015 season. Born in 1997, the 5’9, 160 pound forward grew up playing minor hockey in Whistler, his hometown. Two years ago, he made the move to Burnaby and was captain of the Burnaby Winter Club’s U18 Prep Academy team. This past year he played for the Campbell River Storm in the Vancouver Island Hockey League winning the league Playoffs, Cyclone Taylor Cup and Keystone Cup Championships. Leading all rookies in scoring in the VIJHL with 75 points, he had 17 goals and set a team franchise record with 58 assists. Tyler also affiliated with the Grizzlies last year playing in 2 games and scoring his first BCHL goal.

Mark Krabben, Kelowna, BC – Born: Aug 4/1997 Halifax, NS; 5’11”/175lbs, Left Defensemen: The defenseman from Kelowna, BC played the past 2 seasons in the BCMML for the Okanagan Rockets where he registered 30pts (9G & 21A) in 79 regular season games. In his rookie season he helped the Rockets win both BC Provincials beating the 5 time Defending Champions Vancouver Giants, as well as Pacific Regionals beating the 2 time defending Telus Cup Champions the Red Deer Chiefs. The OK Rockets then went onto the National Midget Championship in Moose Jaw as the Pacific Regional Representative and claimed the Bronze Medal at Telus Cup. This past season the returning D-Man was named Team Captain of Rockets.
Keyvan Mokhtari, Burnaby, BC – Born: May 4, 1998 Burnaby BC, 5’8/155lbs. Forward: He won gold for bantam tier 1 Provincials title and silver medal for Western Canadian Bantam championship. Keyvan played on the BC U16 team, won Silver medal at Western Branch challenge in 2013. He was drafted by Everett Silvertips in WHL Bantam Draft in 2013. His stronger asset is his speed and that he is a 2 way forward.
Tyler Preziuso, Victoria, BC – Born: Jan 19, 1999 Victoria, BC 5’11/170 lbs Right Wing Forward: 2014 WHL Draft: Drafted 3rd round 61st for Medicine Hat Tigers. Teams: 2014/2015: Major Midget Royals; 2013/2014: Burnaby Winter Club Bantam A; 2012/2013: Juan De Fuca Bantam A. Tyler was born and raised in Victoria. He lives with his parents and older sister Allison (18). He played minor hockey at JDF. He had the opportunity to travel and play hockey in Europe. He is in grade 10 at Belmont high school. He played both hockey and lacrosse growing up. His biggest hockey strengths are his speed and hockey sense.
Drayson Pears, Victoria, BC – Born: March 9, 1998 Victoria, BC, 6’1/ 180 lbs Forward: Drayson has played for the Juan De Fuca Grizzlies throughout his minor hockey career until playing at Burnaby Winter Club in his second year of bantam. Then going into midget Drayson spent his season with the South Island Royals. This past season Drayson played for the Westshore Wolves of the VIJHL and was named rookie of the year and was invited to the all-star game. Drayson is a strong skater and a well rounded defense man.

Victoria Grizzlies Out of Province Recruits
Corey Michael Iapalucci, Montreal, Quebec – Born January 16th 1996, Montreal , Quebec. 5’10/ 193 lbs Forward: Corey has been playing hockey since he was four years old. Corey has played on many different teams including midget Espoir Royals, Team Quebec, Ontario Hockey Academy and the Ogden Mustangs. Every team he has played on, Corey has been a big contributor to that them. Corey tends to read the play very well and track his timing for the perfect moment while being aware of everything happening on the ice, he would consider his shot to be another one of my strength as well. Corey spends his life dedicated to hockey, while training hard 100% on and off the ice.
Matt Baker, Midhurst, Ontario – Matthew Baker is a 5’10”, 160 lb. Forward. As a native of Barrie, Ontario, he is a product of the Barrie AAA organization and was drafted by the Erie Otters in the OHL priority selection in 2013. He and co-captain JD Falconer saw Barrie AAA to an OMHA Bronze and a berth into the OHL Showcase Cup in their Minor Midget season. Matt has played for the Upper Canada College Varsity Hockey team in Toronto, Ontario for the past two seasons. As captain of the team he lead the team in scoring with 26 goals and 23 assists in 43 games.
Joey Visconti, Markham, Ontario – The 5’9, 165 lbs Forward from Markham Ontario, played at Lake Forest Academy for the 2013-2014 where he had 28 goals, 12 assists, and 40 penalty points in 31 games played.
JD Falconer, Barrie, Ontario – Saint Andrews College (CISAA). JD Falconer is a powerful 5’9” 170lbs Forward from Barrie Ontario. Falconer had 40 goals, 25 assists and 20 penalty minutes in 49 games. JD played whole minor hockey career with the Barrie Colts, and was drafted by the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds in the seventh round. Has played two seasons at St. Andrews College.
Jake Stevens, Naperville Illinois, USA – Lake Forest Academy (MPHL). Jake Stevens is 6’1.5”, 210 lbs Defenseman, born and raised in the Chicago suburb of Naperville, Illinois. Jake Stevens started the season playing varsity hockey before being called up to the prep team after two months. Stevens was on LFA’s prep team for all four years and was captain of the 2014-15 team while finishing this season as LFA’s top scoring defenseman and third leading scorer overall. Named to the Malloy Division’s All-League Team for 2014-2015, scoring 28 goals and had 68 assists for 96 total points in 179 games with Lake Forest Academy Prep.
Cal Walker, Welland, Ontario – Saint Andrews College (CISAA). Cal Walker is 6.0′ 170 lbs Defence from Welland Ontario. Cal played minor hockey in Welland for the Southern Tier Admirals. Cal continued his education and hockey dreams at St. Andrew’s College. Walker played box lacrosse up until he attended St. Andrew’s and was drafted in the second round to the St. Catharines Athletics. Last season Walker had 3 goals, 17 assist with 60 penalty minutes in 44 games.
Brett Stiriling, Aurora, Ontario – Salisbury School (USHS). The 6’2, 205 lbs, Defenseman from Toronto Ontario, currently plays for the Salisbury Knights in the New England Founders League. Stirling had 4 goals, 13 assists, in 24 games.
Matthew Galajda, Aurora, Ontario – Saint Andrews College (CISAA). The 6’1, 180 lbs, Goalie from Aurora Ontario, played in 36 games last season at St. Andrew’s College, Ontario. Galajda lead the CISAA in wins and save percentage the past 2 seasons. Matt had a record of 28 wins, 5 losses, 2 ties. In those games he recorded 7 shutouts and had goals against average of 1.56 and save percentage of 0.933.
