Duncan, BC – The Cowichan Capitals are proud to announce Ryan Burton has earned an NCAA Division I scholarship to Union College.
“The entire Capitals organization is very pleased to see Ryan commit to such an excellent program,” said General Manager and Head Coach Bob Beatty.
The 19 year-old Thunder Bay, Ontario native had an impressive rookie season with the Capitals putting up seven goals and 20 assists for 27 points in 56 games, finishing the year with 19 points in his last 22 games.
“Ryan has elite level speed and acceleration, is very good on draws and made some highlight reel plays as his confidence grew in the second half of the year,” added Beatty.
“We expect Ryan to have an exceptional season before moving on to futher his career and education with an elite school and hockey program at Union College.”
Under Head Coach Rick Bennett, the Dutchmen have established themselves as one of the best programs in Division I hockey winning the national championship in 2014. A member of the ECAC conference, Union College is based in Schenectady, New York.
The Capitals congratulate Ryan on his commitment and look forward to seeing him back in the Cowichan Valley this fall.
