The Jr. Shamrocks had a strong performance, coming from behind to defeat the visiting New Westminster Salmonbellies, 12-9 Saturday at the Q Centre.
The Rocks were down 3-0 less than 3 minutes into the opening period but were tied 4-4 after 20, outscored the visitors 6-4 in the middle frame and battled hard during the final period to get a big win against the perennially strong Salmonbellies. Cole Pickup led the way for the Shamrocks with a goal and 4 assists. Jake Cullen and McLean Chicquen each had 2 goals with singles coming from 7 players. Charles Claxton, after giving up 3 goals on the first 5 shots, really came up with a superior effort the rest of the way, making 48 saves for the win. The Shamrocks are on the road Sunday to face the Burnaby Lakers. Next home game is Tuesday, June 9 when they will host the Nanaimo Timbermen. Game time at the Q Centre is 8:00 pm.
