In the pre-season games the HarbourCats will be playing tonight (Tuesday) and Wednesdayagainst the visiting North Sound Emeralds (6:35pm, Sports Traders Diamond at RAP), the Victoria HarbourCats will be showcasing hats that will be worn — for these games only.

The HarbourCats, who will unveil a whole new uniform set in Friday’s WCL season-opening game against the Kelowna Falcons (6:35pm, gates open at 5pm), are keeping the new look under wraps until then.

This past Sunday, in the team’s exhibition game against the Langley Blaze, the HarbourCats had players adorned in an all-star-style that was called “represent day” — taking the field in their school game caps, showing their pride for the programs they represent during the school year.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, the HarbourCats will be wearing special Braefoot Community Association caps that feature the “HC” logo as well. The hats will be used after these games for community outreach and fundraising.

“It was great to see our players showing off their school caps on Sunday, and it’s special for us as an organization to allow one of our great community partners to literally be on the field with us,” said General Manager Jim Swanson.

“We have teamed with Braefoot to purchase an ATEC Rookie pitching/fielding machine, through mutual sponsor Kirby’s Source for Sports, to be used both by the HarbourCats and by the Braefoot Community Association for their winter programming, teaching kids skills and building their confidence.”

The HarbourCats are coming off a 8-3 win over the Langley Blaze on Sunday.

Tonight is also the first time to see the team’s full coaching staff at the helm — Head Coach Graig Merritt, who gained off-season notoriety for his time on Big Brother Canada; assisted by Alec Adame (pitching coach), Jerry Pena (hitting coach), Joe Meggs (assistant coach), and Andrew Wilson (bullpen coach).

THIS WEEKEND — The Accent Inns Trophy is up for grabs with the provincial-rival Kelowna Falcons in town. The winner of the series will get the Accent Inns Trophy — the first time the trophy will be awarded for the season series. Something else on the line!!!!!
