MADISON, Wis. — Milwaukee native Hannah Schwartz and Waterford native Steph Malchine have each been named 2015 All-Region rowers by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA).
The award recognizes outstanding performances of NCAA rowers from each of the five regions based on the strength of the team’s regional finish, coaches’ recommendations and 2,000-meter erg scores.
Schwartz, who was named to the first team, stroked the varsity eight for the season, helping the boat place 13th at the 2015 NCAA Rowing Championships, its best finish since 2012. The boast also placed fourth at the 2015 Big Ten Championships and was named Big Ten Boat of the Week on May 5 for its wins over Minnesota and Michigan State at the Devil’s Lake Challenge in Baraboo. The junior is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten pick.
Second-team pick Malchine served the Badgers as one of the team’s captains in 2015. A 2015 First-Team All-Big Ten rower, she rowed three seat for the Badgers’ varsity eight at NCAAs, and as four seat for UW at the Big Ten championships. She spent the entire spring in UW’s top boat, spending time at both seats. The senior is a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection.
