The Canadian senior women’s team is competing in the NORCECA Champions Cup beginning this Friday in Havana, Cuba. The top two teams from this tournament will qualify for the FIVB World Cup, the first qualifying event for the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games.
The four non-qualified top ranked teams from NORCECA – the North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation – will play a single round-robin tournament for the two berths to the event in Japan next September.
NORCECA number-two Dominican Republic plays fifth-ranked Canada in the opening match on Friday at 13:30 (local time) followed by the match of third-ranked Cuba against fourth-ranked Puerto Rico at 15:30. Full schedule is at www.norceca.net
The Canadian team will compete and train in Cuba until June 11, and then travel to Peru women’s Pan Am Cup.
