OTTAWA (CIS) – Canadian Interuniversity Sport, in conjunction with Diving Plongeon Canada, announced Thursday the Canadian diving team for the 2015 Summer Universiade in Gwangju, South Korea (July 3-14).
The red and white squad is comprised of two females and two males, who will be in action from July 3 to 9.
Carol-Ann Ware of Montreal placed fourth on 10-metre platform at the FINA Grand Prix in Puerto Rico last April. It marked the best individual international result in three years for the Concordia University student.
For her part, Celina Toth, who hails from St. Thomas, Ont., and now resides in Victoria, finished seventh on 10-metre platform in Puerto Rico. In early May, the UVic student followed up with a gold-medal performance in the same event at the Summer National Championships in Victoria.
On the men’s side, Canada will be represented by Dylan Grisell of Etobicoke, Ont., andCameron McLean of Winnipeg. Grisell claimed silver in the 10-metre synchronized event last February at the Winter Nationals in Toronto, while McLean took gold at the 1-metre springboard in Toronto before finishing fourth on 3-metre at the Summer Nationals.
Tommy McLeod of Victoria and Dallas Ludwick of Winnipeg will share coaching duties in Gwangju.
Over the years, Canadian divers have racked up 13 Universiade medals including one gold, by Olympian Anne Montminy on platform in 1993 in Buffalo. However, Canada hasn’t reached the FISU podium in the sport since 1999.
