Vikes set to host CIS field hockey championships

VICTORIA, B.C. – The Canada West started off its second day of 2015-16 schedule announcements with the women’s field hockey and rugby dates.

For the fourth year in a row the Vikes women’s field hockey team will be one of three schools competing for the Canada West conference title.

 The Vikes start off their six-week season at home, taking on close rivals and 2014 Canada West champions, the UBC Thunderbirds, Sept. 19-20. They then hit the road for two weekends, taking on the Calgary Dinos before coming back west to take on UBC. With one final weekend of games against Calgary on Oct. 24-25, the Vikes finish off their regular season on their home turf.  

The CIS national tournament will also find its way to the island with the University of Victoria hosting this year’s competition Nov. 5 – 8. Since the inaugural CIS competition in 1975 the Vikes have hosted the event on six occasions, including 1979, 1996, 2000, 2008, 2009 and 2013.

The Vikes women’s rugby team will start their season off at home taking on rivals Lethbridge on Sept. 25, on Wallace field. The four-week season continues with three more home games against Calgary, UBC, and Alberta before the four-team Canada West conference playoffs Oct. 23-25 hosted by Alberta.

The CIS national tournament will be hosted at Queen’s University in Kingston, on Nov. 5 – 8.
