LANGFORD, BC – Rugby Canada is pleased to announce that Canada’s Men’s Rugby Team will face the USA on August 22 in Ottawa as they continue their coast-to-coast preparation for the 2015 Rugby World Cup.
The game will be played at Twin Elm Rugby Park and will be shown live on TSN, officialy broadcast provider of Rugby Canada. Kick off is 4 pm ET/1 pm PT and tickets are on sale now at http://events.rugbycanada.ca.
“This is another great opportunity to play in front of our home fans as we continue our tour across Canada before heading to World Cup,” Senior Men’s head coach Kieran Crowley said. “We’ve been involved in many good matches against the USA in recent years and I have no doubt this game will any different.”
Canada recently battled the USA in last year’s Pacific Nations Cup, narrowly losing 38-35 in Sacramento, snapping a six-game winning streak for Canada dating back to 2009.
“We had a tight game with them last year so it’ll be a good opportunity to go up against them as we prepare for the World Cup,” captain Tyler Ardron said. “It’s always exciting to play in front of our home fans and we look forward to the support in Ottawa.”
It’s the first time Canada’s senior men’s team has played in Ottawa since 2013 when they beat Fiji 20-18.
Before Canada flies to the United Kingdom for the World Cup they will compete in the Pacific Nations Cup, with three game days taking place on Canadian soil.
Following a fixture against Japan on July 18 in California, Canada will battle Tonga on July 24 at Swangard Stadium in Burnaby. Coach Crowley’s outfit will then head to Toronto to take on Samoa at BMO Field as part of a triple-header. All six nations – Canada, USA, Samoa, Tonga, Fiji and Japan – will then return to Burnaby for the Pacific Nations Cup finals day on August 3.
At the end of the Pacific Nations Cup, Canada will announce it’s 31-man World Cup squad. From there, they will face the USA in Ottawa and then battle the Glasgow Warriors in Halifax on August 29th before heading overseas.
Canada begins its World Cup campaign on September 19 against Ireland.
