It was a good Saturday for the Intermediate and Jr. Shamrocks as both came up with wins against their respective Delta Islander opponents.
At the Q Centre, the Intermediate Shamrocks took a 2-0 first period lead in a game that looked like it would be close but broke things open in the second to go up by 10-2 after 40 minutes on their way to a 16-6 victory. Unofficially Brad McCulley led the Shamrocks with 6 goals and 3 assists while Marshal King added 4 goals and 3 helpers. Other goals came from Eddie Smith, Liam Finnigan, Braylon Lumb, Ben Preston, Jake Campbell, Brian Robb and Tyler Glanfield. Apollo Claxton had a strong outing in goal to pick up the win. The Intermediate Shamrocks are on the road Sunday and return to the Q Centre Tuesday to face the Nanaimo Timbermen. Game time is 8:00 pm.
The Jr. Shamrocks were on the road taking on the Delta Islanders and held period leads of 8-5 and 10-8 and held off the Islanders late, scoring twice in the last minute and a half to come away with a 14-11 victory. Max Fredrickson and Nate Wade each picked up the hat trick for the Shamrocks while Danny Smith had a pair. Jake Cullen contributed 4 assists with singles coming from McLean Chicquen, Cole Pickup, Dallas Wade, Steve Ackinclose, Jacob Malloch and Matt Hamilton. Charles Claxton continues to shine in goal, making 48 saves to pick up the win. The Jr. Shamrocks are at the Q Centre Sunday, Father’s Day, to face the league-leading Coquitlam Adanacs. Game time is 5:00 pm.
