Carolina, Puerto Rico, – Puerto Rico recorded a home victory with a 3-1 (25-18, 25-10, 24-26, 25-14) win over Canada in Pool K of FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix on Friday. This was Canada’s first Grand Prix match of the year.
“Puerto Rico was dominant from the service line, and we have to improve our reception to be able to create offensive options,” said Canada’s head coach Arnd Ludwig.
Puerto Rico convincingly won the first two sets 25-18 and 25-10. However, the hosts allowed Canada to snatch the third 26-24, but then recovered with a strong 25-14 finish. Puerto Rico outscored Canada in attack 56-33 and serve 6-0, but Canada showed better net defense with a 12-6 margin.
Sheila Ocasio and Aurea Cruz led Puerto Rico with 16 and 15 points, respectively, while Stephanie Enright, Karina Ocasio and Alexandra Oquendo combined for 34 more points. Canada’s Tabitha Love contributed 13 and Shanice Marcelle scored 11 points.
