EDMONTON, AB – Head coach Francois Ratier has announced his roster for Canada’s final game of the 2015 Women’s Rugby Super Series in Edmonton, Alberta, against England. Seven new players are inserted into the line-up as Ratier continues to inject fresh faces into his starting XV.

“We need fresh blood to inject some pace,” Ratier said. “They are discovering everyday what it takes to be an international player and they are responding really well to what we are working on.”

Carolyn McEwen and DaLeaka Menin get starts in the front row, while captain Laura Russell will play lock. Jacey Murphy returns to the starting line-up at No.8 while Chelsea Guthrie gets the start at scrum half. Natasha Smith returns on the wing, as does Brittany Waters, while Katie McNally starts at fullback.

Maria Samson, Tyson Beukeboom and Olivia DeMerchant, who all started in Canada’s 36-28 defeat to the USA in Red Deer, are named to the bench. Sunday’s game will be a rematch of last year’s World Cup Final where England beat Canada 21-9 in France. The two teams also met in the group stage of the tournament, where they drew 13-13.

“It was a different time and two different teams last year,” Ratier said. “We are looking forward and our goal is to perform on Sunday.”

Canada currently sit fourth in the standings heading into the final game as they also lost their tournament opener 40-22 to the New Zealand Black Ferns in Calgary. Despite the two losses, Canada collected two bonus points as they scored four tries in each game.

“The last two games highlighted our strengths and weaknesses,” Ratier said. “A good performance would validate the hard work these players have put in practice and games in the last two weeks.

“We keep building for the 2017 World Cup and these games are very important for us.”
