VICTORIA, B.C. – The University of Victoria Vikes track team is well represented at the Canadian Track and Field National Championship hosted Jul. 2-5 in Edmonton, Alta. Following Day 3 Vikes senior Thomas Riva, also this year’s co-winner of the Male Athlete of the Year award, took the top of the podium in the 1500-m.

Manitoba’s Nicole Sifuentes took first in 4:20.29 while Toronto’s Sasha Gollish was second in 4:20.43. Vike Nicole Soderberg was 12th in 4:40.97.Second-year Vike Ben Weir raced the men’s senior 5000-m and finished 17th in 14:53.85. Former Vike Geoff Martinson finished fourth in an Elite field that included Team Nike runners Cameron Levins and Mohammed Ahmed finished one-two. Vikes alum Cliff Childs clocked in 14:53.85 to finish 15th overall. In the women’s 800-m UVic Female Athlete of the Year Rachel Francois earned bronze taking third place in 2:06.37. The final was won by Halifast’s Celia Peters (2:08.43). On the men’s side Isaac Penner finished eighth in the 800-m junior division (1:55.15).
