Jays Care Foundation unveil a Field of Dreams

On Thursday, July 23, the Grand Falls-Windsor Minor Baseball Association will officially unveil a Field of Dreams at the Goodyear Avenue Complex, made possible in part by a $150,000 investment from Jays Care Foundation.

To date, Jays Care Foundation, the charitable arm of the Toronto Blue Jays, has invested more than $5 million across Canada towards funding construction and/or refurbishment of 54 spaces, including 27 baseball diamonds.  The $150,000 invested in the Grand Falls-Windsor Minor Baseball Association, used to upgrade field lighting at the Goodyear Avenue Complex, is expected to increase participation in minor baseball by more than 50 per cent.

“We are incredibly excited and proud to have joined the efforts of the Grand Falls-Windsor Minor Baseball Association to go beyond the ballpark and grow the game of baseball in Newfoundland & Labrador,” said Robert Witchel, Executive Director, Jays Care Foundation.  “Our investment of $150,000 will ensure the baseball facilities are properly lit which will allow for an increase of more than 50 per cent in youth baseball participation.  We are proud to help provide the opportunity for more than 250 area youth to play the game and benefit from the invaluable life skills that are learned on the diamond.”

“The community of Grand Falls-Windsor and the Grand Falls Windsor Minor Baseball Association are ecstatic to have the Toronto Blue Jays organization and alumni visit our community,” said Terry Hamilton, President, Grand Falls-Windsor Minor Baseball Association.  “We had applied for a grant through the Jays Care Foundation to do some much needed upgrades to our Goodyear Avenue Baseball Facility – to our complete amazement, our organization was successful in obtaining this grant and now have formed a very proud partnership with the Jays Care Foundation, Town of Grand Falls-Windsor and Teck Resources to make this dream a reality. From our beautiful community and all the kids involved in our organization we stand together as a team and say thank you to this partnership and to Jays Care! “

This announcement will coincide with a Blue Jays Baseball Academy Honda Super Camp taking place at the Goodyear Avenue Complex on July 22-23.  Honda Super Camps offer players ages 9-16 the ultimate Major League experience and the opportunity to learn skills and techniques from former Major League All-Stars; Registration is open to both male and female players.  To register for the Honda Super Camp, visit: bluejays.com\baseballacademy.
