PENTICTON, BC –The Penticton Vees Jr. ‘A’ Hockey Club is pleased to announce graduated defenseman Patrick Sexton (94) has committed to the University of Wisconsin for the 2015-16 season.

Sexton went out on top in his final season of junior hockey, as he guided the Vees to the BCHL Fred Page Cup and Western Canada Cup championships and a berth in the RBC Cup National Jr. ‘A’ Championship. The 20-year-old spent two seasons in Penticton, playing in 103 BCHL regular season games and another 33 playoff games. The rugged defenseman tallied four goals and 21 points in two seasons but was considered one of the best defenders across the league.

The Ottawa, Ontario, product was a true heart and soul leader in Penticton, Co-Captaining the Vees his final season and he was a two-time recipient of the team’s Most Inspirational Award. He also authored one of the most memorable moments in recent Vees’ history, scoring the game-winning goal in the dying minutes of Game Seven of the Interior Division Final against the Vernon Vipers; a game no Vees fan will soon forget.

Sexton is brining plenty of junior hockey experience with him to Madison, Wisconsin, this fall as the blue-liner played in 320 career games between the BCHL and the Central Canada Hockey League (CCHL). Sexton spent two seasons in the CCHL with the Gloucester Rangers and Smith Falls Bears before landing in the South Okanagan.

The Wisconsin Badgers men’s hockey team plays in the Big Ten Conference under Head Coach Mike Eaves, who’s been behind the Badgers’ bench since 2002. Eaves guided the Badgers to their sixth NCAA National Championship in 2006.  Vees’ alum Jed Soleway is entering his junior season at Wisconsin and fellow alum Joel Rumpel just graduated from the Badgers program and signed with the San Jose Sharks organization this past spring.

The entire Vees organization would like to congratulate Patrick on his commitment and wish him all the best in his future hockey endeavors in Wisconsin.
