The world number-one ranked men’s volleyball team from Brazil will be bringing its renowned skill and exciting play to Edmonton, Alberta, in early September to face Canada in two matches at the Saville Community Sports Centre.
“We are always excited to get the chance to meet top teams,” said Canada’s head coach Glenn Hoag. “Canadian volleyball fans will have the opportunity to witness high-level play, and our team will get some of the experience it needs on the road to qualifying for the 2016 Rio Olympics.”
This is Canada’s last stop before traveling to Japan to attend the World Cup, which is an Olympic qualifier. As the host country of the 2016 Olympic Games, Brazil does not need to qualify and will not compete in the 2015 World Cup. Brazil was the 2012 Olympic silver medalist team in London. Recently, at the Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games, Canada picked up the bronze medal; Brazil’s team finished with the silver after a five-set gold-medal battle with Argentina.
