Penticton’s Fabbro, Jost earn Canada U18 roster spots

A pair of Penticton Vees will help Canada go for a ninth-straight gold medal at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup starting next week in Czech Republic and Slovakia.Defenceman Dante Fabbro and forward Tyson Jost were named Tuesday to the 22-man Canadian roster.CLICK HERE for complete roster from Hockey Canada.Fabbro and Jost are the only Junior A players included on the roster.

Each has been projected as a potential first-round selection at next June’s NHL Entry Draft.This will not be the first time pulling on the Maple Leaf for either player. Both suited up at last November’s World Under-17 Challenge, Fabbro playing for Team Red and Jost for Team White. They each also played for Team Canada West at the World Junior A Challenge in Kindersley, Sask. last December.As first-year BCHL players last season, Fabbro and Jost excelled for the Vees and each was named to the league’s All-Rookie squad. Fabbro had four goals and 29 assists for 33 points in 44 games, missing 14 contests due to Hockey Canada committments. Jost had his schedule cut into for the same reasons and managed to tie for the team lead with 23 goals in 46 games.Canada gets going at the Hlinka tournament on Aug. 10 with a game against Czech Republic. CLICK HERE to view the full schedule from Hockey Canada.

Penticton opens its BCHL schedule Sept. 11 in Salmon Arm. They’ll play at the Bauer BCHL Showcase in Chilliwack Sept. 24 at 4 p.m. against Alberni Valley and Sept. 25 at 7:30 p.m. against Chilliwack.
