Victoria, BC – August 8, 2015 – It has been a fabulous week of fastball at the U14 Girls Fast Pitch Canadian Championship Jamboree at Helmcken Park in View Royal. The 17 teams attending from as far away as PEI have played their hearts out and showed some amazing skill, with the round robin concluding Friday. At the end of the round robin, the 2001 Devils of the Victoria Fastball Club finished 3rd in the Cup Division, while the 2002 Devils finished 5th in the Plate Division.
With their high standing, the 2001 Devils team needed only one win on Saturday to move on to the final games Sunday, which they did with a 10-3 win over the 2001 Delta Heat Saturday morning. They now move on to play the 2001 Surrey Storm Sunday morning at 9:30, with a win in that game taking them to the gold medal game at 3:30 on Sunday. A loss at 9:30 would earn them a spot in the bronze medal game at 1:30 with a second chance to win their way in to the gold medal game to play for the national championship.
The 2002 Devils left themselves with a tougher road to make it to Sunday, being allowed only one loss in the playoff round for having finished outside the top 4. However they handed the very strong Six Nation Orange from Ontario a 5-2 loss on Saturday morning, and then played an incredibly hard fought game against the 2002 Surrey Storm Saturday afternoon, holding on to win it 8-7. With that win, the 2002 Devils are headed to the bronze medal game in the Plate Division at 9:00 Sunday morning.
The Victoria Fastball Club is very proud to have its 2001 and 2002 teams guaranteed at least bronze medals in the Cup and Plate Divisions respectively, and is looking forward to an amazing last day of fastball to cap off an excellent week.
