The evening began with a “rousing” rendition of O Canada, followed by a touching tribute to the late great Roddy Piper. The bagpipe music the director’s chair and kilt pretty much summed it up. All iconic, all amazing.

After the 10 bells in memorium of Roddy the crowd was just wired and ready to go…. The opening match was a “10 man tag team Championship match “with the winning team to come back and defend the title later in the evening… Lots of cheering and fan interaction as each team was introduced… the highlight of it was seeing Damien Sandow appear at the top of the ramp wearing a Victoria Royals #23 Jersey, talk about knowing your audience.

In front of approximately 3000 dedicated fans the wrestlers put on their show, and a show of artistry and athleticism it was. At the end of the day the whole thing is a commitment, a commitment to the fans by sports entertainers to be entertaining and a commitment from the fans to participate. and most obviously believe. As the night went on the more was asked for from both sides. From the “New Day Sucks” as instigated by the men of The New Day themselves, or the lighting of phones and swaying left and right by fans as Bray Wyatt entered for what would be the “Main event”.

The “main event”, now the fans have swayed for Bray and starting looking around for his competitor Roman Reigns to ascend from the audience… Within seconds a floodlight shows us where to look, and the crowd goes insane. For those near enough to actually touch the superstar the intensity is off the rails.

Slowly and deliberately taking his time he engages with the fans. Building the anticipation of what’s to come. The match itself involved canes, chairs and tables being introduced as equalizers, and weaponry. And then there was the audience member who decided to toss his WWE “Money in the Bank” briefcase into the ring.

I am going to assume it was intended to aid Reigns on the road to victory, but as is often the case the road to hell is paved with good intentions. And instead of aiding Roman he nailed Roman in the back of the head with it, and the real fun began. Within seconds security had descended upon said “helper” and as his pals tried to defend him and prevent his ejection from ringside more and more security and eventually the police came and got him out. While we watched the ejection, the fans went off the script and began chanting “throw him out” repeatedly and loudly. So now having him out of the way the match continued to a fevered pitch and dramatic ending that all in attendance won’t soon forget.
