The world number-one ranked men’s volleyball team from Brazil will be bringing its renowned skill and exciting play to Edmonton, Alberta, next week to face Canada in the “Rally for Rio” series at the Saville Community Sports Centre.
“We are always excited to get the opportunity to meet top teams,” said Canada’s head coach Glenn Hoag, who is currently working on selecting his roster for these matches. “Canadian volleyball fans will have the opportunity to witness high-level play and our team will get the experience it needs on the road to qualifying for the 2016 Rio Olympics.”
Brazil was the 2012 Olympic silver medalist team. This is Canada’s last stop before traveling to Japan to attend the World Cup, which is an Olympic qualifier. As the host country of the 2016 Olympic Games, Brazil does not need to qualify and will not compete in the 2015 World Cup.
Brazil will be sending a top team headed by coach Bernardo Rezende and including 2012 Olympians Bruno Rezende, Lucas Saatkamp and Sergio Santos, among other elite players.
