Tom Berrow – 1 st Late Model Feature Event Winner, Photo Ken Keating 

Western Speedway was the host for the Wilson Transportation Stock Car series, SDL Bins Mini Stocks, The Modified Series, and the Keg Steakhouse Bar & Grill Driver Late Model Challenge Series on Saturday night with Trophy Dashes, Heat races, and Feature events for all classes.

Chris McInerny – Stock Car Trophy Dash, Photo Ken Keating 

Trophy Dash wins were captured by Chris McInerney in the Stock Cars, Caleb Van Bree in the Mini Stocks, and Jeff Monks in the Modified Series. Heat race victories went to Kyle Cottam in the Stock Cars, Lois­Pollard Grant in the Mini Stocks, Ryan Monks and Troy Tarbuck with the Modified Series, Brandon Carlson and Rhett Smith in the Late Model Series.

Bobby Ryan – Mini Stock Feature Event Winner (First ever victory), Photo Ken Keating

Lois Pollard Grant and Bobby Ryan led nine cars to the green flag for twenty­five laps of racing in the SDL Bins Mini Stock Series. Ryan grabbed the lead on the first lap while Pollard Grant slipped into the second position. This race went flag to with Ryan taking his first ever victory at Western Speedway. Pollard Grant, Caleb Van Bree, Ryan Patterson, and Sean Constantine rounded out the top five positions.

Mike Rutty had the pole for the start of the Wilson Transportation Stock Car Series Feature event. The Stock Cars suffered through another bad day as Bill Gallacher Sr. dropped a motor as did Jim Steen crashing into the turn one wall crumpling the rear end of his car. During the Heat race a couple cars got together with Kevin Knight getting the worst of it and his night ended early. Six cars did make the Feature and Mark Lockhart grabbed the early lead until Kyle Cottam passed him five laps down. Lockhart, Chris McInerny, and Wayne Hart battled for the next positions and at the chequered flag Cottam secured the win with Lockhart holding off McInerny and Hart.

Jeff Monks – Modified Trophy Dash , Photo ken Keating

Ryan Monk led eleven cars to the green flag for thirty laps of racing in the Modified Series. Monks led the first ten laps and had Greg Sagmoen and Jeff May behind him for several laps. On lap eleven Chris Beaulieu grabbed the lead and Troy Tarbuck moving into contention four laps later. There was just a couple yellow flags but they were short lived and Beaulieu went on to take the chequered flag. Tarbuck, May, Travis Stevenson, and Monks rounding out the top five positions.

50s” Feature event in the Keg Steakhouse Bar & Grill Driver Challenge Series and Wiessleman grabbing the lead early. On lap seven Rhett Smith passed for the lead with several cars trading positions behind him all looking to get into contention. On lap nineteen, Tom Berrow passed for the lead followed quickly by Dave Hemrich. Berrow took the chequered flag and held off Hemrich in second with Smith, Jason Frost, and Wade Bland rounding out the top five positions. Bland dropped as far back as eleventh due to a flat tire and managed to work himself back to fifth before the laps ran out.

Otto Bahati and Mike Soppit led fourteen cars to the green flag in the second “Twin 50s” Feature event in the Keg Steakhouse Bar and Grill Late Model Challenge Series with Soppit getting the lead early. On lap eight Soppit was overtaken by Wade Bland in his #07 Ford Fushion and began to stretch a healthy lead over the rest of the field. Behind him Soppit was trying to hold off Jason Frost driving for Darrell Midgley, Brandon Carlson, and Dave Hemrich. On lap twenty- six Hemrich moved into the second position while Tom Berrow made his way to third three laps later. On lap thirty­nine the yellow came out putting the field bumper to bumper for the restart.

Bland got the early jump and went back to the lead with Berrow on his rear bumper. On lap forty­ Nick Wiessleman and Ray Anderosov led fifteen cars to the green flag in the first “Twin six, Bland wiggled just a bit but it was enough for Berrow to take advantage and went by for the lead and the win, his second of the night. Bland, Hemrich, Frost, and Shaun Ross rounded out the top five positions. With the 2nd place finish,Bland was able to capture his 2nd Late Model Championship in the Keg Steakhouse & Bar Driver Challenge. These drivers will be back at Western Speedway on September 5th & 6 for the Reg Midgley Canada 200.
