Toronto, August 27, 2015 – The official draws for the 2015 US Open were conducted in New York on Thursday, setting the stage for the final Slam of the season. Canada will be represented in the singles main draw by Eugenie Bouchard (Montreal), Vasek Pospisil (Vancouver), and Milos Raonic (Thornhill, Ont.), all of whom received direct entries into the tournament.

Bouchard is seeded No. 25 and will play American Alison Riske, world No. 56, in the first round. Bouchard holds a 4-1 record over Riske, including a victory earlier this year at Eastbourne. The 21-year-old’s best result at the US Open is the fourth round, which she accomplished last year. She is in the same quarter as No. 3 Maria Sharapova and could face No. 7 Ana Ivanovic in the third round.

In the men’s event, No. 10 seed Raonic will be challenged by world No. 95 Tim Smyczek of the United States in his opening match. It will be their first meeting. A victory and Raonic would play a former Top 10 player in the second round, either Spaniard Fernando Verdasco or German Tommy Haas. Raonic sits inside the same quarter as world No. 1 Novak Djokovic and could face No. 8 Rafael Nadal in the fourth round. He has never made the US Open quarter-finals, reaching the round of 16 the past three straight years.

Also in the same quarter as Djokovic is world No. 45 Pospisil, who could face the nine-time Grand Slam champion in the second round if he advances past his opening opponent. Pospisil will face Austrian Andreas Haider-Maurer in the first round. The 25-year-old, who is coming off his first-ever Slam quarter-final appearance at Wimbledon, beat No. 52 Haider-Maurer in their only previous ATP World Tour meeting back in 2012 at Vienna. Pospisil will be looking to make the second round of the US Open for the second time in his career and first since 2011.

Action at the US Open will begin on Monday and run through till September 13.
