BC Hockey announced the schedule for the 2015-2016 BC Major Midget League (MML) regular season. The season will officially launch on with five (5) games scheduled around the province.
The schedule is highlighted with two (2) Showcase Weekends on and , both held at the world-class Richmond Olympic Oval. These weekends will offer a great opportunity to see the future of Canadian junior and professional hockey.
“We are really excited about the upcoming MML season,” commented male midget AAA coordinator, Joe Downing. “There were a lot of talented players who attended the Identification and Evaluation Camps in the spring and summer across the province. I look forward to watching them all season and at the Showcase Weekends.”
The 220 game regular season concludes on February 28, 2016 with the playoff battle for the Cromie Memorial Cup beginning on and the championship series starting on . The Pacific Regional Championship will take place on in Alberta. The BCMML champion will face the Alberta Midget Hockey League champion in a best-of-three (3) series to determine the Pacific representative at the TELUS Cup, the National Midget Championship, which will be held in New Brunswick, from April 23-.
The MML was established in 2004 to provide elite level 15, 16 and 17 year olds an opportunity to play within their own age group at a high level and be developed for the next level of hockey. Many MML alumni have gone to play in the National Hockey League (NHL) including Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (Vancouver North West Giants), Griffin and Sam Reinhart (Vancouver North West Giants) and Brendan Gallagher (Greater Vancouver Canadians).
