Training Camp Notes – Day 1

The Kamloops Blazers have completed Day 1 of their 2015 training camp at the Sandman Centre in Kamloops. 

There are 25 players currently in main camp, while 72 players are in the Blazers rookie camp this weekend. Of the 25 players in main camp, 20 are returnees from last year’s team. Of the 72 players in rookie camp, 27 of the players are currently on the Blazers 50-man player protected list. All 10 picks the Blazers made at the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft are attending training camp. 

A Few Training Camp Notes:

  • ·18 Kamloops natives are attending Kamloops Blazers Rookie Camp
  • ·Two sets of twins are in camp including Michael and Ryan Van Unen, and Ryan and Sean Strange.
  • ·Some familiar bloodlines include: Tyler Chyzowski (Nephew of alumni Dave Chyzowski), Hayden Hirsch (Son of alumni Corey Hirsch), Max Kryski (Younger brother of current Blazers forward Jake Kryski), Tylor Ludwar (Younger brother to former Saskatoon Blades defenseman Kane Ludwar), Caige Sterzer (Cousin to alumni Aspen Sterzer), Justin Verveda (Younger brother to of current Blazers defenseman Travis Verveda).
  • ·Rookie camp breakdown of players by region includes 51 from B.C., 12 from Alberta, six from Saskatchewan, one from Manitoba and one from the U.S.A (Arizona).
  • ·Main camp breakdown of players by region includes 10 from B.C., 6 from Alberta, 5 from Saskatchewan, 2 from Manitoba, one from Czech Republic, one from Slovakia.
