September 2, 2015 Victoria, BC (ISN) – A smattering of “True Blue” Victoria Royals fans, hungry to see what hopes the 2015-2016 edition of the Royals recruitment drive may bring, were treated with some early preseason WHL hockey as the Victoria Royals Blue defeated the White 4-3 in inter-squad play Wednesday night at Save On Foods Arena.

The matchup signaled the end of the Royals 2015 training camp, as players put on their best with aspirations of landing a position with the head coach Dave Lowry’s Royals team.

A pair of veterans would combine to put the Blue side on the board first as a Jack Walker cross-ice pass would find Chaz Reddekopp’s stick as quick as it was snapped under the bar to beat starting White squad goalie Dylan Myskiw to tally the lone goal in an otherwise tight checking first period.

Both teams would loosen the grip on their sticks in the second, combining for four goals in the frame. The White squad would pull even early in the middle period on a goal from Lincoln Stars sniper Ethan Price, beating Blue’s goalie Evan Smith for the 1-1 equalizer. Team Blue would erupt for two goals mid-way through the second on scores by Kevin Pierce and Landon Welykholowa to take a commanding lead. On an odd-man opportunity, the White team would pull to within one goal 3-2, as Ben Barnard would beat Myskiw on a 2-1 advantage.

Dawson Frank, last with the North Island Silvertips, would score the eventual winner in the third regaining a two goal lead to give the Blue team the eventual 4-3 win. White team member Ethan Price would score his second goal of the game, snapping the puck glove side under the bar, and past back up goalie Griffen Outhouse late in the final frame in a “too little, too late” attempt at a comeback.
