LANGLEY, British Columbia – Trinity Western’s women’s soccer team will enter the 2015 campaign as the early favourite to win the Canada West title, as the Spartans took top spot in the annual coaches preseason poll. Meanwhile, the TWU men’s soccer team finished sixth in the season-opening poll.

The defending Canada West champion Spartans, who are currently ranked No. 2 in the CIS Top 10, received 14 of a possible 15 first-place votes and 268 points. Victoria and Fraser Valley were the only other teams to garner a first-place vote.

On the men’s side, the Spartans collected 104 total points, which put them sixth overall and third amongst Pacific Division teams. UBC and Victoria are the only other B.C.-based teams to top the Spartans in the season-opening poll.

The annual polls see the men’s and women’s coaches vote on where they believe their competitors will finish at the end of the season. Coaches cannot vote for their own team.
