It’s September, so our first matches are just around the corner!

Our defending BC Premier Champion women get their start next Saturday (Sept 12th) with a trip to Cowichan. Once again, they  will only be playing Island teams initially, until the province-wide premier division starts up in November. It will be interesting to see how the Island squads shake out, with CW starting a women’s team this fall.

The men start on the same day with an exhibition match against JBAA (at our new Westshore home). The club will run two competitive men’s squads this fall, competing for both the Barnard Cup (Island Premier) and the Times Cup (Island 1st Division). Four clubs (Westshore, CW, JBAA, and UVic) will compete for the Island Premier title this fall, with the top three squads proceeding after Christmas to the province-wide Premier competition. As usual, 3rd division remains a bit of a mystery at the moment.

Saturday, Sept 19th will definitely be a big day for the club, with a triple header: both men’s squads and the women are home to CW. Plan to be there!

NOTICE: Club Request

Over the summer we built a relationship with the Mississauga Blues in Ontario. The relationship led to a promising recruit for the Men’s program for the 15/16 season. D’Shawn Bowen would like to move to Victoria and play for the club. D’Shawn is 18 years old and will be taking a year off school to work and save money while he is here with plans to enter Camosun next year. D’Shawn is ranked in the top 3 u20 wingers in Canada and has 2 years to challenge for a spot with Canada u20.

We are reaching out to club members in search of suitable accommodation for D’Shawn for his time in Victoria, Sept-May. Given his age billeting with a family would be ideal. Once D’Shawn is working we would expect room and board to be paid. If you can assist with this request or have any ideas please contact John MacMillan,jmacmillan@pacificsport.com.

U18 Help

Mua Va’a is looking for a manager and an assistant coach to help him out this fall with the U18 boys squad. If you are interested and have the time, contact him directly (you can text him at 250-516-8042).

Youth and Junior Rugby

The club is running co-ed mini rugby once again, for the age groups U6, U8, U10, and U12, and youth rugby for girls and boys (U14, U16, and U18).

Mini rugby runs Sundays (10-11am) at our new home behind the Juan de Fuca Rec Centre, starting September 13th. Jamborees for the fall will be held at all youth program clubs – Cowichan, Oak Bay, Westshore, Nanaimo and Comox. Not sure if your kids will like it? You can bring them by for the first few sessions to give it a try before registering them.
