The 6th B&O Yorkville Run hosts the second annual Canadian 5km Championships Sunday September 13 in Toronto.
The B&O Yorkville Run is a premier, boutique, 5km race that unites local runners and businesses to raise funds for local charities. The run provides a luxurious experience to its 1,000 participants – from the high-end race kit, to oversized finishers medals and après-run hors d’oeuvres served by white-gloved waiters, courtesy of Yorkville restaurants.
The gun goes for the Canadian Championship race at 9:00 a.m., with the mass participation race at 9:45 a.m.
Leading the way in the women’s field are the likes of Sasha Gollish of Toronto, Rachel Hannah of Toronto, and Natasha Wodak of Vancouver. Gollish won bronze at the Pan American Games in the 1500-metres. Hannah is a three-time Canadian Champion, was fourth at the Pan Am Games in the marathon, and finished second last year at the 5km Canadian Championships. Wodak is the Canadian record holder in the 10000-metres and competed at both the Pan Am Games and IAAF World Championships this season. Another to watch is Erin McClure-Robb of Waterloo, Ont., she was 11th at the inaugural 5km national championships. At the Nike Women’s 15k earlier this year she raced to a second place finish.
Lucas Bruchet of Vancouver, Matthew Hughes of Oshawa, Ont., and Jeremy Rae of Guelph, Ont lead the men’s field. The men’s field includes visually impaired athlete Guillaume Ouellet of Victoriaville, Que., who competed at the recent Parapan American Games. Bruchet competed in the 5000-metres at the Toronto Pan American Games (placed 8th), and recently set a new personal best of 13:29.79 in Belgium. Hughes is the Canadian record holder in the 3000-metres steeplechase, he’s a three-time Canadian champion and was 8th at the World Championships in Beijing. Rae is a three-time NCAA All-American in the 1500-metres, and a FISU Games silver medallist. David Le Porho is also sure to be in the mix for medals, he was 6th in the event last year.
