BOULDER, Colo. – As USA Rugby makes final preparations to host Australia’s Wallabies at Chicago’s Soldier Field on September 5th in a lead up to the 2015 Rugby World Cup, the nation’s governing body is taking important steps to ensure they capture the flood of new American fans coming to the game.
With a dramatic rise in youth participation across the country, both the men’s and women’s USA Eagles qualifying for next year’s Olympic Games in Rio, and the increased popularity of test matches versus global powerhouse rugby nations, USA Rugby recognized the need to evolve the “fan experience” to support the overall growth of the game in the country.
Whether at an NFL stadium, NBA arena, or even a college sporting event, today’s American sports fan is accustomed to a high impact, highly engaged fan experience where they feel a part of the action through in-game activities and promotions backed by modern technology. To raise the bar for new and returning fans of the Eagles, USA Rugby has partnered with 3 Point Productions, an industry-leading sports and entertainment production company to implement creative in-stadium solutions that engage fans, link sponsors, and bring a new, modern feel to the USA Rugby test match.
“As rugby becomes more and more popular in America, we’re excited to support USA Rugby to ensure new fans have fun at the match and go home with a set of great memories,” said Patrick Walker, President of 3 Point Productions. “This event will showcase the sport, our national team players, and we’ll give fans every opportunity to connect with the growing passion for rugby.”
Through this unique focus on the fans, USA Rugby and 3 Point Productions aim to unite and excite the Eagles fan base through game production guidance that incorporates stadium technologies and integrates sponsor activation to highlight rugby’s heritage, enhance traditions and provide a first class level of entertainment.
“As our sport evolves and becomes more popular, we know we must provide fans the type of interactive experience they see when attending other major sports like basketball, football, or soccer,” said Kellie Cavalier, International Events Director at USA Rugby. “We’re excited to see the team at 3 Point Productions put their creativity and expertise to work during the Wallabies match to get our fans fired up and help us play well against such a global rugby powerhouse.”
3 Point Productions brings a diverse and deep pedigree to the USA Rugby partnership that will be critical to reach a wide-ranging set of fans in Chicago. 3PT has been involved in the production of events during NBA All-Star Weekend and NCAA Basketball Final Four, neutral-site college basketball games including the “Carrier Classic”, celebrity basketball game production for The Hunger Games star Josh Hutcherson, consultation with the University of Washington on game production, and the placement of high-entertainment acts such as the Massive Monkees and Electrick Jumpers.
